Squamous Cell Carcinoma arising in Benign Dermoid Cyst of Ovary

Abstract
|
|
|
Although most of the dermoid cysts or cystic teratomas of the ovary are benign tumors, malignant change of them can be detected very rarely. In a comprehensive survey of the literature, Peterson found a incidence of 1.9% ´and Kelley and Scully showed a incidence of 1.7%.
The most common malignant neoplasms are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma with the ratio of 8;1.
Recently, we experienced a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from a benign dermoid cyst of ovary of left side in a 47-year-old female patient with chief complaints of palpable mass on the lower abdomen, intermittent abdominal discomfortness and lumbago for 8 months.
