Squamous Cell Carcinoma arising in Benign Dermoid Cyst of Ovary

Abstract
Although most of the dermoid cysts or cystic teratomas of the ovary are benign tumors, malignant change of them can be detected very rarely. In a comprehensive survey of the literature, Peterson found a incidence of 1.9% ¢¥and Kelley and Scully showed a incidence of 1.7%.
The most common malignant neoplasms are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma with the ratio of 8;1.
Recently, we experienced a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from a benign dermoid cyst of ovary of left side in a 47-year-old female patient with chief complaints of palpable mass on the lower abdomen, intermittent abdominal discomfortness and lumbago for 8 months.
